Hello. My name is Kara, and I, along with my husband Brad, are the curators of Venus & Harley.
Photography has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. I have treasured photos taken by my grandfather, a professional portrait and editorial photographer in Sydney, and my dad, a passionate enthusiast. When I was 15, my dad gifted me his film camera, and my weekends were filled with friends, landscapes and sunsets, and the discovery of my life’s passion.
Studying photography and photographic development gave me the opportunity to meet and work with the most amazing mentors in the industry. This is where I met my husband, Brad, a passionate freelance photographer. Together, we established our own studio, Photographic Art, and for the next twenty years, we captured portraits and love stories of wedding couples on the Gold Coast.
Over the years, we have broadened our creative skills in digital media, graphic design, videography, and website development, enabling us to produce more compelling visual content for ourselves and our clients…
Design
In search of a country lifestyle, we settled in Pechey, a charming rural area in the high country north of Toowoomba, QLD.
We established Venus & Harley after discovering a vibrant community in tourism and hospitality. This motivated us to combine our expertise into a creative design business focused on multimedia content creation and promotion, offering commercial services in photography, video production, website development, and graphic design.
Working with clients in boutique retail, accommodation, tourism, hospitality, creatives, artisan producers, agri-tourism & community groups.
Our artistic journey has flourished here, amidst the rolling hills and breathtaking landscapes, which are ever-changing through the seasons…
Art
Our home-based studio is a delightful mix of inspired ideas and personal creative projects as we continue to explore our artistic curiosity.
For us, art isn’t limited to a single medium or space; it’s a continuous flow of inspiration influencing every aspect of our lives. Travelling, spending time in our studio, tending to our garden while surrounded by nature and wildlife, designing beautiful spaces throughout our home, and curating still-life photoshoots all inspire our contemporary artwork.
In our editing processes, we blend textured overlays, vibrant colours, and saturation to shape our romantic and whimsical style of photographic art.
Our art showcases landscapes, wildlife, antique décor, vintage treasures, and freshly cut and pressed flowers.
We create our art on various surfaces, including fine art papers, canvas, and fabrics, producing bespoke wall art, stationery, home décor, and furnishings.
